Role

We are currently seeking a skilled and dedicated Registered Nurse – Cardiothoracic Scrub Nurse to join our Cardiothoracic Theatre team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care within Scope of Practice and assume accountability for all nursing activities.
  • Provide safe, cost-effective, quality patient care in accordance with hospital standards and policies.
  • Ensure the correct use of theatre equipment and instrumentation through staff education and supervision.
  • Prepare operating theatres and ensure adequate replenishment of stock, consignment items, and instruments.
  • Assist surgeons during procedures while maintaining a safe surgical environment and optimal patient comfort.
  • Adhere to infection prevention protocols and standard precautions in line with IPC policies.
  • Maintain accurate and timeous documentation of all pre-operative, peri-operative, and post-operative care.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and supervise patient care to meet individual patient needs.
  • Foster effective relationships with stakeholders and escalate unresolved concerns to the Unit Manager.
  • Perform duties in accordance with SANC, Department of Health, and National Core Standards.

 

 

 

 

Education

Degree or Diploma in General Nursing Science.

Qualification in Operating Theatre Nursing Science will be advantageous.

Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Registered Nurse. 

Experience and Requirements

Previous private hospital experience advantageous.

Essential: Proven scrubbing experience in theatre.

Cardiothoracic theatre experience will be advantageous.
