Role

To support the Pharmacist in the safe, ethical, and efficient dispensing of medication in accordance with Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) and applicable regulatory requirements. The role encompasses medication dispensing, stock management, administrative support, and the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities

Medication Dispensing & Patient Care

-       Prepare and dispense medication under the supervision of a Pharmacist

-       Verify prescriptions for accuracy and completeness

-       Counsel patients on proper medication usage

-       Ensure correct labelling, packaging and billing of all medication

-       Maintain high standards of accuracy and attention to detail in all dispensing activities


Stock Management & Procurement

-       Maintain appropriate stock levels and assist with ordering of medication

-       Manage and manage expiry dates and discrepancies

-       Ensure proper storage of medicine in line with FIFO principles

-       Assist with regular stock takes and inventory control


Administrative Support

-       Maintain accurate records and pharmacy documentation

-       Assist with accounts and month-end administrative processes

-       Process payments and support basic reconciliations

-       Assist with medical aid queries and relative administrative follow-ups


Customer Service & Communication

-       Liaise professionally with other healthcare professionals and patients

-       Respond to customer and prescription- related queries efficiently and accurately

-       Provide clear and courteous communication at all times


Compliance & Governance

-       Adhere to SAPC regulations and Good Pharmacy Practice (GPP) standards

-       Support internal and external audits and inspections

-       Maintain strict confidentiality of patient and business information


Learning & Development

-       Attend required training and development sessions

-       Stay up to date with current pharmacy practices and procedures

-       Apply learning to improve accuracy, efficiency and service delivery

Education

Certificate: Pharmacist's Assistant (Post-Basic)

Experience and Requirements

  • Minimum of three years’ experience will be to your advantage
  • Experience working in a private hospital is essential
