We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Patient Admissions Administrator to join our Admissions team.

Role

The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate, efficient patient admissions while delivering a professional and empathetic service experience.

Responsibilities

Patient Admissions & Administration

  • Process all patient admissions, pre-admissions, and discharges accurately and timeously.
  • Ensure patient documentation is complete, signed, and verified in line with hospital policies.
  • Confirm and capture medical aid authorisations and benefits prior to admission.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and filing systems.
  • Prepare daily theatre lists and ensure alignment with ward requirements.

 

Customer Service & Communication

  • Act as the first point of contact for patients and visitors, providing professional and compassionate assistance.
  • Maintain exceptional telephone etiquette when liaising with patients, families, and doctors’ rooms.
  • Proactively manage patient expectations and communicate delays or changes effectively.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with colleagues, nursing staff, doctors, and service providers.

 

Financial Administration & Risk Management

  • Identify, explain, and collect co-payments and shortfalls prior to admission.
  • Assist with debt collection processes by following up on outstanding accounts.
  • Apply sound financial and risk management principles in line with hospital procedures.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality and comply with POPIA requirements.

 

Quality, Compliance & Teamwork

  • Ensure adherence to hospital policies, SOPs, and relevant legislation.
  • Capture accurate system notes for all actions taken.
  • Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and training opportunities.
  • Maintain an organised, clean, and compliant workstation.
  • Collaborate effectively with the Admissions team and adapt to changing operational demands.


Education

Grade 12 qualification.

Experience and Requirements

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
  • Good time management and organisational skills
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong teamwork and problem-solving abilities
  • High levels of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
  • Working knowledge of medical aid authorisations, benefit verification, and billing processes


Other

Previous experience in a hospital or healthcare environment is advantageous.
