Role

An exciting opportunity exists for a qualified Industrial Engineer to join our hospital team. The successful candidate will work closely with hospital management, nursing, medical, pharmacy, and support services teams to drive operational excellence and improve service delivery. The role also requires close collaboration with IT, Finance, Procurement, and Human Resources to optimise systems, processes, and resource utilisation across the hospital.

Responsibilities

Process Improvement & Workflow Optimization

  • Assess and map existing hospital processes (patient flow, admissions, discharge, pharmacy, stock control, theatres, etc.).
  • Identify bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and risks, and propose solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for digitalization and automation to streamline operations and reduce manual tasks.
  • Redesign workflows to reduce waiting times, optimize patient throughput, and improve staff efficiency.
  • Build Operations Excellence maturity through the use and training of approaches such as Lean, Theory of Constraints, JIT, Kanban etc.


Resource Management

  • Analyse utilization of employees, equipment, and facilities to ensure optimal allocation.
  • Recommend staffing models, scheduling improvements, and equipment usage strategies.
  • Support the removal of unnecessary workload from nursing and clinical teams by implementing digital monitoring systems and reducing manual interventions.
  • Support capacity planning to meet patient demand without compromising quality of care.


Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Collect, analyse, and interpret operational and clinical support data.
  • Monitor and assure data quality through change management, optimising data systems to build quality into the process.
  • Develop dashboards, KPIs, and reports to monitor hospital performance.
  • Provide insights to support strategic and operational decision-making.


Quality & Safety Improvement

  • Collaborate with clinical teams to streamline processes while ensuring compliance with healthcare standards and safety regulations.
  • Support projects related to patient safety, infection control, and regulatory compliance.
  • Build Operations Excellence maturity using OpEx approaches such as Lean, Six Sigma, TDQM, etc.


Project & Change Management

  • Lead or support hospital improvement projects from initiation to implementation.
  • Train and support staff in new systems, processes, and technologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Proactively and systematically identify and prioritise improvement opportunities.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering.

Minimum 2 years’ experience in process engineering, operations improvement, or similar role (healthcare sector experience advantageous).

Experience and Requirements

Knowledge of Lean, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other improvement methodologies.

Strong data analysis, statistical, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work with multidisciplinary teams.
