Role

We invite applications for a dedicated and knowledgeable Clinical Facilitator for Theatre to join our team. The successful candidate will play a key role in strengthening clinical competence, supporting continuous learning, and promoting safe, high-quality patient care across all nursing units.

 

Responsibilities

Facilitation and Training

  • Plan, coordinate, and deliver structured learning sessions to enhance staff and student competence within theatre and ward environments.
  • Collaborate with hospital management and partner educational institutions to ensure training aligns with current best practices and approved curricula.
  • Conduct competency assessments and identify individual learning needs for both staff and students.
  • From time to time, the incumbent may be required to assist with training in the general wards, as operationally necessary.

 

Quality Improvement and Clinical Risk Managemen

  • Identify clinical and educational challenges in theatre and ward areas, developing and implementing quality improvement initiatives.
  • Promote compliance with infection prevention, control standards, and nursing protocols to mitigate clinical risk.
  • Support and uphold the hospital’s policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), quality assurance, and clinical governance frameworks.


Educational Development and Support

  • Design, review, and implement educational strategies and resources to strengthen clinical skills and improve patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to staff orientation, induction, and shadowing programs across departments.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date training records, statistics, and reports for all staff and student development initiatives.

 

Leadership and Professional Advocacy

  • Serve as a professional role model, mentor, and advocate for the Training Department.
  • Promote a positive learning environment that encourages continuous professional growth and evidence-based practice.
  • Manage educational resources effectively and maintain collaborative relationships within the hospital and with external stakeholders.
  • Liaise with academic institutions, professional bodies, and partner organizations utilizing the hospital’s training facilities.

  • Adaptability: Able to navigate dynamic theatre environments and shifting training needs

Education

Professional Registration

  • Current registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
  • Midwifery registration with SANC will be advantageous.

 

Nursing Education Qualification

  • Postgraduate Diploma in the relevant specialty area e.g., Theatre is essential.
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Education is - completed or in progress is essential.
  • Assessor and Moderator certification is advantageous, particularly if the Nursing Education qualification is not yet complete
  • Master’s degree in nursing or a related field will be advantageous. 

Experience and Requirements

  • Clinical Experience - Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience as a Professional Nurse.
  • Mentorship and Assessment - Minimum of 1–2 years’ experience as a mentor, preceptor, or peer educator.
  • Proven experience as a Workplace Assessor or Clinical Facilitator.
  • Specialized Units - Demonstrated clinical experience in both theatre and general ward environments is essential
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and relevant hospital information systems (required).
