Zuid-Afrikaans Hospital is a private, independent non-profit hospital with 181 hospital beds,

committed to providing superior patient-centric care, whilst advancing towards world class

clinical innovation. The hospital’s core services include cardiology, cardio thoracic surgery,

spinal surgery, orthopaedic surgery, general surgery, ear-nose and throat surgery, specialist

physicians and the following paediatric services – general, neurological, cardiology and

gastroenterology services.

Role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct ward rounds and ensuring the accurate collection of clinic data from patient files and liaise with nursing staff and Doctor’s.
  • Update the patient’s clinical information to justify the length of stay and level of care to Funders, in the turnaround time.
  • Update and provide the necessary information to funders regarding high-value items, limited benefits and protocols as defined by the funders.
  • Communicating Funder requirements and responses to the Doctors and patients where necessary to ensure compliance with industry standards.
  • Ensure the effective management of real-time and manual messaging, including requests, responses, rejections and submissions.
  • Ensure the accurate submission of accounts to Funders.
  • Comply with governance and risk management requirements and ensure adherence to patient service policies and procedures to ensure the management of financial risk.
  • Ensure compliance to service level agreements with internal and external stakeholders.

Education

  • General Diploma in Nursing, with a minimum of five years’ experience in a ward or specialized unit. 
  • Current registration with the relevant professional/regulatory body.

Experience and Requirements

  • A minimum of 5 years Hospital Case management experience.
  • Knowledge of the case management processes.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CPT and ICD10 coding.
  • Understanding of clinical coding, clinical terminology and anatomy, Funder rules, co-payments, exclusions and benefits.
  • Understanding of the private hospital industry and practices.
  • Computer proficiency.
  • Sound knowledge of Contracts under Fixed fee & Per Diem will be an advantage.
