His clinical interests include the diagnosis and treatment of Insomnia, Disorders of Excessive Sleepiness such as Narcolepsy, Memory disorders such as Alzheimer’s disease and the neuro-psychiatric aspects of patients with sleep disorders. He has published in a variety of peer-reviewed publications and books. He is a member of the British Medical Association, The British Sleep Society (BSS), The American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), The ptBritish Neuropsychiatry Association (BNPA), the Royal College of Psychiatrists and a committee member of the Royal Society of Medicine section on Sleep Medicine. He is the current vice-president of SASSM.

He was the first NHS appointed Consultant Neuropsychiatrist in Sleep Disorders in the UK. In 2001, he set up The London Sleep Centre (www.londonsleepcentre.com) the first multi-disciplinary sleep centre in the UK providing a comprehensive service for patients with all types of sleep disorders. In 2005, he opened the Edinburgh Sleep Centre (www.edinburghsleepcentre.com), the second multidisciplinary sleep centre in the UK.

In 2008, he co-founded, with Dr Kevin Rosman the South African Society of Sleep Medicine (www.sassm.org) and in the same year opened The Constantia Sleep Centre (www.constantiasleepcentre.com).
